What are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals who bring passion and energy to their role, with a love for learning and, for secondary applicants, a genuine enthusiasm for their subject that inspires pupils to embrace education. Confidence and personality are essential—you should be able to engage pupils effectively, speaking with clarity and enthusiasm. Professionalism is key, reflected in your appearance, mindset, and conduct. Finally, resilience and commitment are critical. Teaching is both rewarding and challenging, and we need someone ready to persevere through tough days with determination and dedication to their pupils’ success.
We have trainees on our programme from all walks of life and ages. Our past trainees have included those who are changing careers after working for a long time in jobs outside education, and those straight from their undergraduate study at 21. We are committed to producing teachers that reflect the population of our region and welcome applications from diverse backgrounds.

Entry Requirements

It is important that before individuals apply that they ensure they meet the statutory academic requirements, which differ slightly depending on which age group they wish to teach.

Primary teaching applicants will need:

  • GCSE grades (or equivalent) at Level 4/Grade C or above in English, Mathematics and Science.
  • A degree (in any subject), usually at 2:2 or above.

Secondary teaching applicants will need;

  • GCSE grades (or equivalent) at Level 4/Grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
  • A degree, usually at 2:2 or above, and ideally in the subject you are applying to teach, or with at least 50% relevant content.
  • If your degree is not in your chosen field of study, you will need an A Level (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
If you don’t think you meet the current requirements, please do contact us to see if we can help you; we are usually able to support applicants who have different academic backgrounds, or who need time in schools by providing them with short placements.
